An example of dialog cleanup
|
The first of three files is the original recording captured on set, with very loud wireless microphone static and clothing noise. This is what we received. We were not given handles or other parts of the interview. If we had, the job might have been easier. Another facility suggested adding music underneath to cover up the problems. That is a really lazy and ineffective solution in our opinion.
The second file, cleanup1, is the result of editing and repair tricks.
For the third file, cleanup2, we made a real-time pass for noise reduction. Noise reduction is often a tradeoff between loss of noise and loss of audio quality. By keeping it a real-time process, we can make improvements and tweaks at any time until the very end.
You are now free to add music when you want to, not because you have to. That is the way dialog should be handled.
